Sensitive Teeth

Teeth sensitivity may be caused by toothbrush abrasions (over brushing), gum recessions, fracture lines or tooth decay. The most common cause of sensitivity is gum recessions, this is normally a direct result of over brushing or gum disease. Over brushing and gum disease causes the enamel layer that protects the tooth to wear away exposing the second layer of the tooth and root.

The signs and symptoms include sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet or acidic foods and drinks and pain in breathing in cold air.

To help prevent sensitive teeth use a soft bristled toothbrush, use a sensitive toothpaste and in more serve cases a tooth coloured restoration designed to cover the exposed area may be required.
